Rock Bags
Rock Bags FAQs
What are Rock Bags?
Rock Bags are a sustainable erosion control product introduced in 1987 by a Japanese company. They are a simple solution of large mesh net bags filled with small rocks.
Are rocks included in the Rock Bags?
No. We only provide empty mesh-netted bags designed for holding the rocks and lifting rings required for deploying the rock bags at the site.
How do Rock Bags work to control erosion?
A bag filled with small rocks works similarly to one large rock but more effectively. Rock Bags placed on the site act as a barrier, preventing the water from washing away the soil or sand. The gaps between the small rocks also promote the growth of plant and marine life, strengthening the erosion control system further.
Are Rock Bags ideal for use in seawater?
Yes. Rock Bags are ideal for use in both freshwater and seawater environments.
Where can Rock Bags be used?
As Rock Bags are flexible in structure, they are suitable for many applications. You can use them for erosion control and prevention in ports and coastal areas, railways, bridges, waterways, roads, offshore and subsea.
Are Rock Bags only used for erosion control?
No. Rock Bags can also be used to build temporary work platforms and pathways, create coffer dams, protect underwater cables and pipelines, level uneven seabed, build artificial reefs, restore sinkholes and road collapses as an emergency, and many more!
